There he was at the Baby House—an orphanage—a little
eight month chubby, smiley, cutey-pie wrapped in tons of baby clothes. The rest is history.
I have no idea who Son Pascal or Anuar Nurpeisov, or
whoever is in this video. I just
stumbled across their song, called Englishman in Shymkent. Shymkent was the city in Kazakhstan where Matthew
was born and orphaned, and where we grew attached to our little one. My wife and I spent six and a half weeks
there the first leg of the adventure. We
got to know the city fairly well. I post
this not for the song—it’s not bad, but nothing special—but for the background
sites of Shymkent. I recognize most of
them. The other language sung in the video doesn't sound like Russian, so I think it's the local Kazak language.
Thanks to all the people in Shymkent for your love and little baby. And now for a picture from that first day, here are my wife and Matthew.
They certainly fed them well over there.
