Matthew
had his first report card last week. He
didn’t do too bad. His penmanship is
really improving, and as far as they teach Math in Kindergarten, he seems to have grasped everything they taught. Even
though it’s this new Common Core math, which neither my wife nor I completely
get. The one thing he didn’t do too well
on his report card is follow directions.
Hmm, what a surprise. Not. He’s a stubborn little boy when he gets a
thing into his head. Well here’s a
picture of Matthew doing his homework one night.
Here in Utah the schools use enVisionMath and it stinks. We didn't like it from the first time we saw it and my daughter-the-teacher doesn't like it. It seems too much to just teach basic math, right? They have to add all kinds of abstract stuff that the kids can't possibly understand and aren't ready for, and make sure there is also a whole lot of non-discrimination in there too.
ReplyDeleteYou have to admit though, following directions is inherently NOT a man thing. Matthew is just starting early! Really, when was the last time you read the instructions for anything???? :-)
Yesterday got back the results of the common core math homework that I helped Matthew with, and I got it wrong...lol. You can be so sexist. :-P Women don't read instructions either. ;)
DeleteListen bub, I have a tried and true method for when I need something done requiring me to first read the instructions...I proceed in the presence of my husband, bang a few things around or fret prettily, and he gallantly takes over :)
DeleteAs for the homework, it won't be long until Matthew fusses about how you can't help him cuz he'll get them all wrong! But don't worry, your engineer brain should be able to figure out the insanity sooner or later.
My fifteen year old daughter is also disliking common core math. Sigh. Matthew is as cute as ever! And I am of the mind that if he learns to love learning, he'll do great no matter the grades.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kelly. :)

ReplyDeleteHey Manny, don't you think that being a little stubborn now and then is not always necessarily a bad thing especially when he's trying to be good... he will at least know that his new loving parents will always be there if "IT" doesn't work out exactly as he planned during his future. Right?...lol
God bless
Stubbornness can be a good trait in life. Yes I agree. But it sure drives parents crazy...lol.

ReplyDeleteYes so true but that's what keeps us from going insane...lol
