I
haven’t had a Music Tuesday entry in a while and I came across this wonderful
composition by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, the 16th century
Italian composer. This is his wonderful arrangement of the opening lines of Psalm 42: “As a deer
longs for the flowing streams, so longs my soul for thee, O God.” It is sung in Latin:
Sicut cervus desiderat ad
fontes aquarum,
ita desiderat anima mea
ad te, Deus.
The
artist in this rendition is the choral group, The Cambridge Singers.
Love Palestrina, Latin, and the Cambridge Singers!!!
ReplyDeleteI like Gregorian Chants, too.
