Movie: Unplanned

There is a new pro-life movie coming out.  Praise heaven the pro-life cause is becoming more frequent.  Maybe we’re winning the war despite the several states that have recently expanded the legalized killing of the innocent.  Perhaps they’re expanding because they fear the pro-life message. 

Last fall I advocated for the Gosnell movie.  You can refresh your memory of my three posts on the subject here. 

The new movie is the biographical conversion story of Abby Johnson, the superstar pro-abortion manager of a slaughter institution who upon seeing the ultrasound of an abortion in process, witnessed the fetus’s struggle to resist.  Let me expand on that.  It wasn’t just an ultrasound of a child in the womb.  It was an abortion procedure being performed under an ultrasound because the doctor required visual confirmation of his motions.  In that moment, watching the fetus pull away from the instruments of slaughter, Abby Johnson realized all the justifications she had been told and had bought into were all a lie.  It was a lie the fetus was a human being.  It was a lie, the fetus did feel pain.  It was a lie the procedure was harmless.  In that split second moment, Abby Johnson went from a pro-abortion stalwart to pro-life.  It is an amazing story.

And here is a half hour documentary on the making of the movie.  Parts of this had me in tears.  It’s worth watching the entire thing.

I plan to see the movie.  I plan to pray for its success, because its success is spreading what moves the heart, what changes the culture, and what saves innocent children’s lives.  So for this Lent, I hope you will too,

Gosnell Movie Update: Top Ten Over the Weekend

Great news from LifeNews:

“Gosnell” Movie Profiling Serial-Killer Abortionist Breaks Top 10 Nationally Despite Media Blackout”

Despite a media blackout and virtually no coverage outside conservative media circles, the new movie “Gosnell” made the list of top 10 movies across the United States over the weekend. Coming in at the #10 spot, Gosnell came in ahead of other movies with much wider releases — as the film is appearing in just 673 theaters nationwide.

Despite the more limited release, Gosnell outperformed A Simple Favor, The Nun,  and the blockbuster film Crazy Rich Asians. Every other movie except for one that appeared higher in the weekend top 10 list was shown to Americans in thousands of theaters. It was also the only movie to gain in audience on Sunday, with over $1.23 million in ticket sales though the weekend. Every other movie saw a Sunday dropoff.

Had Gosnell opened in 2,800 theaters like other movies in the top 10 list it would have finished in 7th place for the weekend — making it more popular per theater than The House With a Clock in Its Walls and Bad Times at the El Royale.

Gosnell the Movie is Out and I went to See It!

A couple of months ago I told you about the making of the movie, Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer. It’s the movie about the case and trial from a few years ago of Kermit Gosnell, the abortionist/killer (same thing) in Philadelphia where he was notorious for snipping the necks of born alive babies in addition to having several women die under his care.  You can read about his infamous life here.  

Somehow in my post of a couple of months ago, the trailer failed to stay.  Here is the trailer again.

So what did I think?  It had me in tears for a good deal of the time. I’m speechless. The acting was very good, but really it was the story that was powerful. The actor who played Gosnell was outstanding.

The movie is rated PG, but I don’t think I would take kids to it. But they did a nice job of limiting the graphic and disgusting parts while getting you a sense of it. Even the photo that was critical at the trial to persuading the jury was not shown, the one of Baby Boy A. At the end during the credits they provided a link where you could see it. I went. I won’t provide the link but the child looked almost several months old. Gosnell actually quipped just before he snipped his neck, “this boy is so big he could walk me to the bus stop.” What absolute evil.

I was stunned at the end of the movie. I sat in my seat for like five minutes watching the credits go by. Actually I was trying to get my eyes dry to be presentable when I left.

Go see the movie, especially this weekend if you can.  The attendance on first weekend is what determines how long the movie will stay around and where it falls in the Netflix pecking order.  You will not be disappointed.

Gosnell, the Movie Trailer

I almost never bring up politics on this blog, but I don’t care if this is political or not.  Abortion isn’t political for me.  It is an evil that must be overturned.  That the unborn child in the womb is a living, innocent, human being with all the civil rights of any human being is a truth. The right to life is fundamental.  I am unabashedly pro-life.

Kermit Gosnell was one of the most prolific abortionist in history, a killer of not only those in the womb but also that had come out of the cervix and where he duly snipped their necks as if it were a toe nail.  He pushed the abortion procedures so aggressively he damaged women and many died under his hands.  He is considered the one of the infamous mass murderers to ever be put on trial.

And he was convicted and for many years tried to cobble together funds to make a movie.  Of course the movie industry hindered it in every way.  In all it took five years to film it and get it to the public.  Well, the movie is finally coming out and will be in theaters in October.  It’s called, Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer.  First, here is an interview with Phelim McAleer, one of the producers, with Catherine Hadro at EWTN’s Pro-Life Weekly show..

The Stream: What surprised you most as you began to research this case?

Phelim McAleer: I was there for part of this trial. As a journalist, I’ve gone undercover to report on the troubles and wars of eastern Europe, Indonesia and Vietnam. This was by far the most shocking story I’d ever heard of or seen. For the media to decide it wasn’t worth covering, that was shocking.

We discovered the extent of the cover-up and the knowledge that existed in the community. That was eye-opening. Bureaucrats looked the other way for political reasons. Then heroic police detectives instigated this whole investigation. As a reporter, it’s everything you dream of in terms of a compelling story.

The Stream: How did you land Dean Cain as the film’s lead, among other stars?

Ann McElhinney: Our casting director was very good and did several casting calls. Dean Cain came on quite early and was enthusiastic about the story. He actually knew the story in advance, which was unlike a lot of the actors.

Catherine Hardo mentions that some 30,000 donated to get the film made.  I am proud to say that I am one of those 30,000.  Seeing this come to fruition with the trailer brought tears to my eyes.  If you are pro-life, please make a statement and go see this film. Let's make it a record number of viewers. That will tell the abortion industry something.
