Matthew Monday: Halloween 2014

It was a Friday, and I didn’t have anything pressing at work, so I took the day off so I could take Matthew Trick-or-Treating.  In the past we only went to a few houses.  It would be late in the day and dark when I got home from work, so that precluded extensive going house to house.  So this year I got to take him when he got home from school in the early afternoon.  We still didn’t go extensive doorbell ringing.  We walked about for an hour or so.  Boy in that hour he filled up an entire shopping bag.  Whoa, beyond my expectations.  I even asked at the end if we wanted to go some more, and he said, “This bag is too heavy.  Let’s go home.”

Of course he went as Batman.  Here are some pictures.  Acting tough.

Not sure if you can see it, but he was very proud of the little cape that came with the costume.

My mother was his biggest contributor, giving him at least a half dozen packages.

Even Rosie got to wear a Halloween jester collar.  Here they are fighting as usual.  Some tough guy.  He can't even handle a fifteen pound pup.

I’m glad I took the day off.  It was one of those father/son treasured moments.

  1. I'm glad he had a great time! Are you going to check his candy for "bad" stuff (which you subsequently have to taste?)

    1. Absolutely. And I will have to take a good portion to work so that every one else can check them out too...lol.

  2. Nice to see the Caped Crusader walking the streets of New York. You should have dressed as Robin.

    1. That would have been a good idea. He would have loved it. But I think we over do Halloween. I'm not against it religiously, but it kind of keeps the culture childish. And Lord knows we need more adults to behave as adults. Thanks Jan.

  3. These photos of Matthew and your short description are priceless and someday might even turn into gold.

I dressed up as The Grim Reaper and some children were truly afraid and I didn't say a word when some said that they knew "IT" was me cause we recognize your boots... long story short, my wife at the end of the evening convinced our close friends that it was really my younger brother and they accepted her lying story after she added, "Now come on, when have you ever heard my husband keep silent for that long...lol

I'm happy for you and your family Manny

    1. LOL, you as the Grim Reaper. That sens chills down my spine.

Quick question. Are you logging in differently? Your last few comments I did not receive an email notification, and you were not in spam either. Nothing, which has never happened before. Strange. Must be the gremlins!

  4. Long story short Manny! And I'm not kidding when "I" say that I've really been doing nothing different with my computer... Longer story shorter, if "I" told you what has really been going around, you would either say that there's a realistic common sense reason for "IT" but then again like my wife of forty-four years of marriage, she roles with the punches but then again, chills down YAR spine also sounds realistic for this twenty first century. ;)

A little old tune below to cheer you up during your election...lol

  5. I don't know who was cuter, Batman or Rosie! Good to see that Batman is still popular with the 4-5 year old crowd, all these years later. I think all my sons went as Batman at least once. It's lovely to watch you enjoying fatherhood so much, Virgil. And you're good at it, too.

    1. Thank you. You're too kind. Sometimes I feel I yell at him too often to be a good father. But sometimes he can drive me nuts. Actually he can drive both parents nuts.
